Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has expressed concerns over the Federal Government’s fresh allocation for the renovation of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
In President Bola Tinubu’s N49.7 trillion 2025 “Budget of Restoration” presented to the 10th National Assembly, over N12 billion was earmarked for upgrading the stadium’s main bowl.
The allocation is part of the National Sports Commission’s (NSC) N94.9 billion total budget.

The breakdown of the budget includes:
- N12.77 billion for upgrading the stadium’s main bowl.
- N4.5 billion for the construction of a sports secretariat at the Abuja Stadium.
- N3.65 billion for the procurement of official vehicles and utility needs.
- N1.2 billion for building a National Olympic Committee (NOC) headquarters in Abuja.
Reacting to the allocation amid the nation’s economic challenges, Shehu Sani took to his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Sunday to question the justification for the budget.
Sani pointed out that in 2022, billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote renovated the same stadium with $1 million.
“In 2022, Dangote renovated the Abuja stadium with $1 million, and I heard the stadium is among those to be renovated with N31 billion in 2025. I will find out where would be renovated,” Sani wrote.
His remarks highlight growing concerns about government spending priorities, especially as Nigerians grapple with economic hardship.
