Torino president Urbano Cairo will only allow Andrea Belotti to leave for Manchester United if the striker’s £88million release clause is triggered.
Belotti enjoyed a superb campaign last season and has attracted interest from Jose Mourinho but Torino are determined to hold onto their prized asset.
Cairo told Radio 24 in Italy: ‘I care about Belotti and I’m keeping hold of him.
‘He has a contract with Toro until 2021. I would only sell him for €100million (£88m), but even then he can refuse.
‘The most important thing is what he wants, regardless of the release clause, and I think he wants to stay.’
United are in the market for a star striker to lead the line next season with Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s future uncertain following injury and Wayne Rooney seemingly coming to the end of his tenure with the club.
Belotti is one of the players Mourinho would like to lure to Old Trafford but the 23-year-old will not come cheap.
Whether the Old Trafford club are willing to part with £88m remains to be seen but Belotti certainly attracted attention with eye-catching displays last season for the mid-table Serie A side.
The dynamic forward scored 28 goals in all competitions for his club and provided seven assists for team-mates making him one of the most sought-after hit-men in European football.
