Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, marking what he described as a new chapter in the state’s fiscal management and governance.
The signing ceremony, held at the Light House in Awka, followed the passage of the budget by the Anambra State House of Assembly, which reviewed and increased the proposed estimate from N757 billion to N766 billion.

According to the governor, the 2026 Appropriation Law provides the financial framework for the state’s key priorities, including economic growth, accelerated infrastructure development and enhanced social welfare programmes.
In a statement issued by his spokesman, Chris Anytime, Soludo said the budget was deliberately structured to deliver on his administration’s promises to the people of Anambra State.
“This budget is more than numbers; it is a strategic plan crafted to deliver on our administration’s promises. We have focused on what truly matters to the people, ensuring that resources are allocated to meet the critical needs in our communities,” the statement quoted the governor as saying.
Beyond the 2026 budget, Soludo also assented to three other bills, which the government said underscore its commitment to good governance and sustainable development.
The newly signed laws are the Anambra State Mission Schools of Nursing and Midwifery (Amendment No. 3) Law, 2025; the Anambra State Taxes, Levies and Presumptive Tax (Approved List for Collection) Law, 2025; and the Anambra State Correctional Service Law, 2025.
The governor commended members of the State House of Assembly for their cooperation and diligence, describing the partnership between the executive and legislature as productive and beneficial to the state’s development.
“We submitted a draft appropriation of N757 billion, but in their wisdom, after extensive reviews, the lawmakers slightly increased the budget size to N766 billion for the 2026 fiscal year. So, we now get to work,” he said.
Soludo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability and inclusive governance, stressing that the newly enacted laws would create an enabling environment for effective service delivery and sustainable growth.
The governor was joined at the ceremony by the Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze; the Majority Leader, Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme; Hon. Ejike Okechukwu; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Ernest Ezeajughi; Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General, Prof. (Mrs) Sylva Chika Ifemeje; Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mrs Chiamaka Nnake; and other top government officials.
