London, UK – 7th of August 2014 – SPIE, the independent European leader in multi-technical services, has today announced the acquisition of Scotshield Fire and Security. The move, which will enable SPIE to develop its expertise in Intelligent Buildings, sees it entering a new market, one that demonstrates natural affiliations with its existing portfolio of services.
Established in Scotland, in 1998, Scotshield is a leading provider of fire detection, security alarms, access control and closed circuit television systems. Its service offering includes design, supply, installation, integration, service to maintenance with long-term maintenance and framework contracts. The company’s strong recurring client base and balanced portfolio, where 46 per cent of business constitutes new installations, saw it take sales of £23m in 2014 (fiscal year ending May 2014).
The main drivers of business for Scotshield have historically come from the Central Belt of Scotland. On average it manages 200 concurrent installation projects and covers 8000 sites with service and maintenance contracts. Its alignment with SPIE UK will enable it to widen its service offering through increased investment and market knowledge, expanding its reach and projects across the UK.
James Thoden van Velzen, CEO of SPIE UK, comments: “This acquisition is an excellent opportunity for both companies to develop their businesses and reach new customer bases across the UK. With limited client overlap, there are numerous opportunities for cross-selling our services. Scotshield is already well established in the northern part of the UK and has demonstrated consistent growth there. By bringing it into the SPIE portfolio, we are developing our Scottish business, taking on new technologies and a lead position in the local market. Similarly, Scotshield’s range of solutions has a strong synergy with our own and is therefore a strong fit for existing clients across the rest of the UK, many of whom will be interested in the new services we have to offer.”
Renaud Digoin Danzin, Strategy & Development Director of SPIE UK, comments: “Globally, there is a growing trend for converged security and business management systems (BMS). Scotshield’s expertise will allow SPIE UK to further develop its services in the “Smart City” strategic segment, with a particular focus on Security and Energy Management. With this 5th acquisition in 3 years, we continue to broaden and balance our portfolio of engineering-led services and our client base.”
Tony Kane, founder of Scotshield Fire and Security, adds: “We are immensely proud of the joining of two excellent businesses in their respective fields. We wish to thank the SPIE team for a warm welcome into the SPIE family and look forward to a prosperous future for all.”
