Stephanie Okereke-Linus has been served with a N100 million copyright infringement lawsuit for her movie, “Dry.”
The Nollywood actress and filmmaker is being sued by writer and lawyer, Miss Daniella Madudu, OlisaTV reports.
The lawsuit comes shortly after Miss Madudu accused Linus of stealing the storyline for the 2015 movie “Dry,” from her original literature, “Behind Her Veil.”
The filmmaker has since refuted the claims, but Miss Madudu is not backing down.
According to the reports, the suit was reportedly filed a few days before Mrs Okereke-Linus issued an official statement, refuting the claims and denied ever seeing Ms Madudu’s ‘original literary work’ prior to the shooting of her movie “Dry.”
The legal documents reportedly reveal several claims against Mrs Okereke-Linus, including:
“An ORDER For The Payment Of All Sums Found To Be Due To The Plaintiff Upon Taking Of The Said Inquiry Or Account By The Said Firm(S) Of Chartered Accountants Appointed By This Honourable Court Together With Interest At The Rate Of 20% Per Annum Pre-Judgement And 10% Per Annum Post-Judgement The SUM Of N100,000,000.00k (One Hundred Million) As General, Additional And Conversion Damages.”
The writ of summons and the statement of claims which was shared on social media, show extensive evidence of the overwhelming similarities between Daniella Madudu’s book “Behind Her Veil” and Mrs Linus’ movie “Dry’.
Both stories revolve around marriage, childbirth and VVF, the unmissable identical character development arc in both stories as is seen in the picture above.
Dry” is Stephanie Linus’ multi award-winning movie, which focuses on Vesicovaginal fistula condition and girl child marriage, narrating the story of a 13-year-old girl, Halima.
