Former Super Eagles midfielder Etim Esin has urged the Nigerian national team to improve on their away form during qualifiers to major competitions.
Speaking after Nigeria’s 2-0 aggregate win over Swaziland in both legs of their second round of the qualifiers to the 2018 World Cup, Esin said victories in away games should be the target of the Eagles.
“Thank God we qualified for the group stages. What we need to improve on now is the away form of the team,” Esin told Completesportsnigeria.com.
“The second goal really made everyone comfortable because even at 1-0, it was not won yet.
“Yes, there are no minnows in football these days as we say, but we cannot consistently struggle against teams away. There must be games we should win away, too. We are Nigeria,” the one-time Lierse of Belgium star stated.
Simon Moses and Efe Ambrose found the back of the net in the second half of the return leg Tuesday evening at the Adokie Amiesemaka Stadium, Port Harcourt to confirm qualification to the group stages of the qualifiers after a scoreless first leg in Lombaba on Friday.
