Lere Olayinka, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, has reportedly urged Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential candidate in the most recent general elections, that he should give up the idea of running for president in 2027.
He stated that “as it is now, Atiku needs to let PDP breathe.” “breathe”
Olayinka, who ran as a candidate for the PDP in the previous election for the House of Representatives seat representing Ekiti Central Constituency two, stated that “Atiku’s selfishness and arrogance put PDP where it is today.”

Going forward, he should recuse himself and allow other individuals to take the reins as the public face of the party.
Olayinka said it was funny that some people were so emotional that they believed that not having 25 percent of the vote in the Federal Capital Territory was enough to nullify the election of someone who won in more than 20 States. Olayinka made this comment in response to the judgment of the Supreme Court, which dismissed Atiku’s petition against the election of President Bola Tinubu. The petition was filed by Atiku.
He stated, “Rather than bringing everyone together to confront the election, they were more interested in dealing with those who told them the truth, suspending and expelling National Assembly candidates of the party, and spending millions of Naira on lawyers to defend the suspension.” He was referring to the party’s actions to deal with individuals who had told them the truth about the election.
“They even had names of those they will show pepper when their President-elect-to-be takes office,” said the narrator. “They were very prepared.” Now, the smoke has cleared”
“Enough of Atiku is coming every four years,” Olayinka added, advising people who were already pushing the idea that Atiku might run for office again in 2027 as a candidate for the PDP to give up on the concept. The PDP is not the property of any one specific person.
“The most essential thing to remember is that politics shouldn’t always be about the interests of one person. Someone abandoned the PDP in 2007 after it became clear that they would not be running for president on the party’s ticket. He returned in 2011 to engage in a highly contentious battle for the ticket, but he was ultimately unsuccessful.
“Just as he did in 2007, when he saw that he wasn’t going to obtain the PDP ticket in 2015, he stirred up trouble within the party and then defected to the APC. After it became apparent that he wouldn’t be able to win the APC nomination in 2019, he switched back to the PDP.
“In all candor, if he had been eliminated from contention for the PDP nomination in 2019, he most certainly would have switched parties.
“Now that he has gotten what he wanted two times and failed, the party should be allowed to pick up the pieces of its political life and move on with Atiku taking the back seat.”
