A former governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Taraba State, Professor Jerome Nyameh, has officially resigned his membership of the party, citing unresolved internal crises and mounting pressure from supporters across the state.
Nyameh, a longstanding PDP member since 1999, announced his resignation in a letter dated Sunday and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Zing AII Ward in Zing Local Government Area.
The letter stated that his resignation takes immediate effect.

In the letter, Nyameh attributed his decision to persistent concerns raised by his supporters in the 168 wards across the state, many of whom he said had expressed growing fears over the party’s deepening divisions and uncertain future.
“My decision to resign is based on the fact that supporters across the 168 wards in the state, at one point or another, have expressed fear of the unknown and urged me, out of urgency and concern, to withdraw my membership from the party due to the ongoing crisis and divisions that appear unresolved,” he wrote.
Nyameh, who is also a respected academic and political analyst, expressed regret over the state of affairs within the PDP in Taraba, describing the situation as untenable for those seeking meaningful change.
Despite leaving the party, he reaffirmed his commitment to public service and the development of both Taraba State and the nation at large.
“My commitment to building a better Taraba and a greater nation remains unwavering. The passion and vision I carried while in the PDP will continue to drive me wherever I find myself, by God’s grace,” he added.
His exit from the PDP is expected to trigger significant political realignments in Taraba State, especially as the 2027 general elections draw closer. Analysts suggest that Nyameh’s departure may signal further fragmentation within the party and could influence the movement of other key stakeholders.
The PDP in Taraba is yet to issue an official response to Nyameh’s resignation.
However, insiders indicate that efforts are underway to prevent further defections amid growing uncertainty within the party’s state structure.
