A phone engineer, Ojo Ayokunle, who allegedly stole a handset valued N70,000, was arraigned on Thursday in Lagos.

Ayokunle, 18, who resides at No. 4, Akinpelu St., Oshodi, Lagos, is being tried for stealing at an Oshodi Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

The accused however, pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Cpl. Kehinde Olatunde, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Feb. 7 at No. 5, Church St, Oshodi, Lagos.

Olatunde said that the accused stole one android ipad worth N70,000, property of Miss Vivian Nelly.

“The complainant just bought the phone; she gave it to the accused to help her subscribe to a network, so that she would be able to browse with it.
.
“The accused told her to come back for her phone in an hour but when the complainant went back for her phone, the accused was nowhere to be found again,” he said.

Olatunde said that the accused ran to Ibadan, Oyo State, and was later arrested.

“The accused claimed to have sold the phone at the computer village, Lagos, for N10,000.
.
“He took the complainant and police to computer village and the buyer of the stolen handset claimed he had sold it,” he said.

Olatunde said that the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Section 285 prescribes a three- year jail term as penalty for offenders.

The Magistrate, Mr Akeem Fashola granted the accused N50,000 bail, with one surety in like sum, and adjourned the case till March 3.
