Tukur Buratai has asked the media to support the military to defeat Boko Haram insurgents.
Buratai said this during a dinner and interactive session organised for editors and defence correspondens in Maiduguri.
He said that the call was compulspry to curb the spread of terrorists’ propaganda that saw the successful implementation of the counter insurgency campaign.
Buratai stated that terrorists had become more popular due to publicity to misinform the public, plus they have also successfully instilled fear in the mind of Nigerians and demoralised troops morale.
Buratai also described the allegations of human rights abuses against the military by Amnesty International, lack of equipment and non payment allowances to troops as misleading.
“The war against terrorism should be a collective responsibility for all, and not just a war between the army and the terrorist group.
“The war needs to be reported as it is, and enlighten the people to understand the situation and support the military,” he said.
