Thousands of supporters from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other political parties in Benue State have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
This mass defection took place in Sankera, Kwande, and Ushongo local government areas on Wednesday during the commencement of Governor Hyacinth Alia’s state-wide thank-you tour.
Speaking at events held at Katsina-Ala Township Stadium and LGEA Primary School in Kwande town, Governor Alia expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support he received during the last elections.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to resettling internally displaced persons (IDPs) affected by armed herdsmen attacks back to their ancestral homes to resume normal farming activities.
Governor Alia voiced his concern over the impact of bandit attacks on the Sankera axis, a crucial hub for yam production in the country.
Emphasizing that security is a collective responsibility, he urged everyone to collaborate with his administration to eradicate such attacks.
The governor encouraged the formation of cooperative societies to facilitate the distribution of farm inputs and other benefits, aiming to enhance self-reliance among the populace.
Addressing rumors, Governor Alia dismissed reports that his administration had borrowed substantial sums from foreign financial institutions for infrastructural projects.
He announced the award of a contract for the construction of the Sankera-Chito-Vaase Road to address the region’s worsening security issues.
Governor Alia revealed that he had sought President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s assistance in constructing more road networks in Sankera.
President Tinubu approved the construction of several roads, including the Katsina-Ala Head Bridge-Hausa Quarters/Victory Bible Church Wukari Junction and the Zaki Biam Yam Market-Iwar Ior-Y-Junction roads.
He called for patience from the people, assuring them that the president was committed to the state’s development projects.
