President Bola Tinubu has stated that while people may insult him, he is determined to build the country and knows what it takes to govern effectively.
The president made this remark during a meeting with stakeholders from the South-East geopolitical zone on Saturday in Enugu.
Commissioning of Key Projects

The president was in the state to commission key infrastructure projects initiated by Governor Peter Mbah, including:
- 30 smart green schools
- 60 completed Type 2 primary health centres
- 19-kilometre Airport-New Haven–Bisalla and Okpara Square roads
Addressing South-East Stakeholders
At the meeting, Tinubu highlighted the necessity of removing the petrol subsidy as a critical step in securing Nigeria’s future.
He emphasized that difficult decisions were essential to safeguard the country’s economy for future generations.
“You are all members of one big, huge family called Nigeria but living in different rooms in the same house.
This house, we must build to satisfy our immediate needs, which may not be enough yet, but also for tomorrow.
“That is why the removal of the fuel subsidy was necessary. You cannot spend the future of generations yet unborn in advance. Don’t bankrupt the nation before they are born,” Tinubu said.
Prepared for Challenges
The president noted that he was aware of the challenges of leading Nigeria before contesting the 2023 elections and expressed confidence in his ability to assemble a competent team.
“I know people will fight, grumble, and abuse me, but I asked for the job.
I know what it takes. I believe in myself, and I believe I can gather a very good team and build a nation.
“It is our country.
We have to work really hard to build a nation we can be proud of. Change the narrative—negative comments about Nigeria.
“I’m not taking that. I’m very proud of Nigeria. You all should be proud of Nigeria,” he added.
Stakeholder Engagement
Tinubu’s visit to Enugu underscores his commitment to fostering unity and development across Nigeria’s regions, with an appeal to stakeholders to collaborate in building a prosperous future for the country.
