In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at revolutionizing transportation and combating environmental challenges, President Bola Tinubu proudly unveiled a fleet of 50 four-seater electric taxis and 57 gas-powered mass transit vehicles in Borno State on Monday. The move, orchestrated by the Borno State Government, not only promises to enhance affordable transportation services within the state but also signals a concerted effort to reduce dependency on fossil fuels.
During the inauguration ceremony, President Tinubu expressed his admiration for Governor Babagana Zulum’s forward-thinking leadership and commitment to people-centric policies and projects. He commended Governor Zulum, stating, “Your Excellency (Governor Zulum)… this is exactly ‘Hope Renewed.’ Thank you for your good job always. Thank you once again for being innovative and creative; and for your concern about your people and the good governance you provide.”
President Tinubu went on to acknowledge the potential for economic growth and prosperity through the establishment of assembly plants at the sub-national level. He affirmed, “We are going to take advantage of your foresight and proactiveness to at the sub-national level be able to start assembly plants and add more value to the economy and bring economic prosperity to our people. You (Zulum) are doing a good job, thank you very much.”

In his address, Governor Zulum revealed that the provision of mass transit vehicles aligns with President Tinubu’s directive to state governors to implement palliative measures following the removal of subsidies. “Mr President, after you announced the subsidy removal and your consequent directive to governors to provide immediate palliative, in Borno State we decided to invest massively in a mass transit scheme,” explained Gov. Zulum.
Highlighting the groundbreaking nature of the initiative, Governor Zulum emphasized that the deployment of 50 electric taxis is the first of its kind in Nigeria and reflects a commitment to addressing the realities of climate change.
Infostride News learned that among the public mass transit vehicles inaugurated by President Tinubu are 35 coaster buses, 12 Hummer buses, and 10 luxurious buses, further enhancing the state’s transportation infrastructure.
