A wave of panic swept through Ogun State when a 29-year-old passenger, identified as Anuoluwapo Aderemi, tragically collapsed and died while travelling on a commercial bus.
The incident occurred during a journey from Papalanto Motor Park in Ewekoro Local Government Area, Ogun State, to Ibadan, Oyo State, throwing both passengers and the driver into shock.
Reports indicate that the unfortunate event unfolded at approximately 7:45 pm on a Tuesday evening, as the bus made a brief stop at a filling station in Itori to refuel.

The situation escalated rapidly when Aderemi, who was initially showing signs of distress, collapsed suddenly, causing panic among the other passengers.
The spokesperson for the Ogun Police Command, Odutola Omolola, confirmed the incident, revealing that it was reported by the bus driver, Akeem Olorode.
According to the report, the 18-seater bus, which was carrying 15 passengers at the time, had departed from Papalanto Motor Park without any indication of the tragedy that was about to unfold.
Omolola recounted the sequence of events, noting that Aderemi’s condition deteriorated rapidly despite attempts by other passengers to render first aid.
The police spokesperson said, “While the driver was refuelling at the filling station, some of the passengers noticed that Aderemi was acting unusually and appeared unresponsive. Efforts to revive him proved unsuccessful, and he unfortunately passed away inside the bus.”
Upon receiving the distress call, police officers from the Ewekoro Division swiftly arrived at the scene. They found Aderemi’s lifeless body still inside the bus, surrounded by other passengers who were visibly shaken by the sudden turn of events.
The officers immediately began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death, although preliminary findings suggested that no foul play was involved.
The deceased, who was identified as a resident of Ibadan, was subsequently transported to a state hospital in Ifo.
There, a medical doctor on duty formally confirmed his death.
The exact cause of his sudden collapse and death remains unknown, pending further medical examination or an autopsy to determine if there were any underlying health issues.
The tragic incident has raised concerns among the public, highlighting the unpredictability of health emergencies and the importance of having prompt access to medical assistance during travel.
For many, this incident serves as a sobering reminder of the need for emergency protocols in commercial transportation, particularly in long-distance travel where immediate medical help may not be readily accessible.
In response to the incident, the Ogun State Police Command has urged travellers to be vigilant and report any signs of distress among fellow passengers.
They emphasised the importance of early intervention in medical emergencies, which could potentially save lives.
The police also reassured the public that they would continue to monitor the situation closely and offer support to the bereaved family.
This incident also underscores the need for increased awareness and training among drivers and passengers alike in administering first aid.
Basic first aid knowledge could prove crucial in stabilising individuals in emergency situations until professional medical help is available.
It is crucial for transport operators to ensure their staff are equipped with the necessary skills and that buses are stocked with basic first aid kits.
As the investigation continues, authorities are expected to review safety measures and protocols for handling such emergencies in public transport.
Meanwhile, the community mourns the loss of a young life cut short in an unexpected and heartbreaking manner.
The death of Anuoluwapo Aderemi serves as a tragic reminder of the fragility of life and the critical need for emergency preparedness in all aspects of daily living, including travel.
