Ovey John, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was declared ineligible to serve as the lawful representative for the Keffi East Constituency in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly (NSHA) by the National and State House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Lafia.
This comes after INEC, the Independent National Electoral Commission, announced that Ovey John had won the elections held on March 18.
The three-person tribunal, led by Justice Francisca Isong Nnang, issued their ruling on Sunday in Lafia. They found that INEC had made a mistake by pronouncing the PDP candidate the winner.

According to the Tribunal’s analysis, Ovey’s lead of 1004 votes was insufficient to overturn INEC’s decision to nullify the results in the four (4) polling units in question.
The Justice Francisca Isong Nnang-led Tribunal decided to rerun the election in four polling units within the constituency to resolve this discrepancy: Yarkade Primary School 003, Angwan Maiganga 014, Police Station 2, and Angwan Nepa.
