In a recent ruling, the National and State House of Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal in Lafia, Nasarawa State, affirmed David Onarigu’s election as the lawmaker to represent the Udege/Loko Constituency.
Candidate Ahmed Tanko of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) was defeated by Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate Onarigu.
You may recall that Tanko and his party had challenged the results of the election, arguing that INEC had violated the electoral act by failing to include the NNPP emblem on voting materials.
The petition was rejected by the three-person panel led by Justice Francisca Nnang because the accusations made by the NNPP candidate were without merit.
Justice Nnang stated that the NNPP candidate’s case was completely dismissed because he had failed to show it on the merits.
After hearing both sides, Justice Nnang ruled to dismiss the matter altogether.
