Turaki PDP Faction Throws Weight Behind G-100 Opposition Alliance

The Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has endorsed the G-100 initiative aimed at building a united opposition front against the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The faction announced its position in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, following the first G-100 meeting held on Monday at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja.

The meeting brought together representatives of six opposition political parties to discuss possible areas of cooperation and the prospect of presenting a common candidate against the APC in the 2027 election.

The Turaki-led faction said its decision was informed by what it described as the hardship, poverty and insecurity confronting Nigerians under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

It said the move was consistent with its earlier position to work with like-minded political parties and organisations seeking to rescue the country from its current challenges.

The faction also said its participation in the G-100 process demonstrated its readiness to contribute to the formation of an all-opposition platform capable of defeating the APC and rebuilding Nigeria.

However, Turaki said the coalition process must be guided by transparency, equality, data-driven decision-making and egalitarianism.

He maintained that any candidate produced through a credible and transparent process would have the legitimacy and capacity to address the country’s worsening economic and security challenges.

The faction’s endorsement adds to ongoing efforts by opposition parties and political groups to forge a common platform ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
