Mr. Iheanacho Nwogu, representing Osisioma North State Constituency, and Mr. Fine Ahuama, his counterpart from Osisioma South, have officially left the Young Progressives Party (YPP) and joined the ruling Labour Party (LP) in Abia State.
The lawmakers confirmed their defection to the Labour Party during the plenary session, following the Speaker’s announcement of their written communication.
They cited their expulsion from the YPP over alleged anti-party activities as the reason for their move.

In a statement, the lawmakers expressed their commitment to fully support Governor Alex Otti and help him deliver the dividends of democracy to their constituents and all Abians.
The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Emmanuel Emeruwa, welcomed the lawmakers to the Labour Party and encouraged them to complete their registration at the ward level to become official members.
Additionally, a reliable source within the Abia State House of Assembly revealed that two lawmakers from the Abia Central senatorial zone are also planning to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Labour Party, with an eye on their post-2027 political careers.
In other news, the House screened and confirmed nominees for the Abia State Judicial Service Commission, as nominated by the governor.
The nominees include Mr. Chibuzo Irobi, Mr. Finecountry Iyioku, Professor Udensi Chukwu Udensi, and Mr. Moses Ogbonna.
