At least two people were feared dead on Monday after heavy rainfall caused severe flooding at Trademore Estate in Lugbe, along the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport Road.
The estate, home to numerous civil servants and other residents, has perennially been affected by flooding.
In a video documenting the flood, a resident urgently called on the Federal Government and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, for immediate assistance, reporting that two individuals had been swept away by the floodwaters.

This incident follows a prediction from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) on Sunday, which forecast thunderstorms and hazy weather conditions from Sunday to Tuesday in various parts of the country.
In response to the forecast, the FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD) announced that it had placed its flood vanguards and local emergency management committees in the six area councils on high alert for potential flooding.
In a statement by the Head of Public Affairs of the Department, Nkechi Isa, FEMD confirmed its readiness: “The FCT Emergency Management Department, FEMD, has placed its vanguards and the local emergency management committees in the six area councils on alert following early warnings of possible flooding in the Territory.”
The FEMD’s proactive measures aim to mitigate the impact of the flooding and provide timely assistance to affected residents.
