Two women have been arraigned before a Badagry Magistrate’s Court over their alleged involvement in child trafficking and modern-day slavery, in contravention of the Lagos State Criminal Law.
The defendants, 25-year-old Loveth Christian and 17-year-old Damilola Basiru, were charged with two counts of trafficking and exploitation of minors.
Police Prosecutor, Inspector Ayodele Adeosun, informed the court that the suspects were arrested on April 26 in the Ajara Agamathen area of Badagry, where they allegedly attempted to traffic two teenage girls, aged 15 and 18, to Ghana for the purpose of exploitation and servitude.

Adeosun stated that the offences committed are contrary to and punishable under Sections 276 and 411 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.
Presiding Magistrate Patrick Adekomaiya ordered that the two accused persons be remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre, pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The pleas of the defendants were not taken by the court.
The case has been adjourned until June 30 for further hearing.
