Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 Level 4 now available to all OpenTrust customers
Loudwater, UK, 25th June 2014: Ultra Electronics AEP and OpenTrust have announced support for the highest standard of cryptography modules currently on the market. AEP’s Keyper™ Hardware Security Module (HSM), accredited to FIPS 140-2 Level 4, is now integrated within OpenTrust PKI version 4.8. The development means that OpenTrust customers have access to features such as auto-self-destruct of encryption keys should unauthorised access be attempted to the HSM.
The FIPS 140-2 standard is the de-facto international standard for cryptographic modules in highly secure environments, with Level 4 providing the highest level of security. It is particularly appropriate for use within schemes governing ePassports, citizen ID, Near Field Communication (NFC) and ‘chip & pin’ applications.
OpenTrust Corporate ID manages the lifecycle of digital identities of users, devices or applications, and provides the foundations for a trust-based ecosystem. OpenTrust customers include some of the most demanding Fortune 500 and government bodies often involved in very sensitive areas. These include national security, nuclear energy, financial transactions and airlines, as well as other enterprises wishing to create an environment of electronic trust in order to better protect their intellectual property and corporate assets.
Lorenzo Stranges, Head of Marketing at OpenTrust comments: “Adding AEP to the list of supported HSMs is a valuable addition to our server products, particularly thanks to Keyper accreditation to FIPS 140-2 Level 4, a standard where the very highest level of key protection is required.”
Mark Southam, the Ultra Safe Product Manager at AEP adds: “Aligning with OpenTrust will mean that we can bring AEP’s Keyper to some of the world’s most demanding environments where the highest levels of cryptography are required. FIPS 140-2 Level 4 is the highest bar for cryptography and provides assurance for companies and citizens alike that important data will be kept safe and protected.”
