The people of Plateau State, in particular those who are loyal to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), have received assurances from the former Senate Minority Leader Simon Mwadkwon that he will be returning to the Senate within the next ninety days.
The election of Mwadkwon, it has been brought to the attention of the media, was overturned by an Appeal Court that was sitting in Abuja last Sunday.
In its verdict on the appeal brought by Chris Giwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Gyang Zi of the Labour Party, an appellate panel consisting of three members overturned his election and declared it invalid.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was given an order by the court to hold new elections in the Plateau North Senatorial district within the next three months.
Mwadkwon has promised some PDP leaders in the district that even if the rerun poll is held the following day, he will undoubtedly win his seat back. He made this statement when speaking about the situation on Sunday.
According to him, even if the ruling of the Appeal Court was contrary to logic and previous legal standards, he had no choice but to accept it and get ready for the election that would have to be redone.
It was through a democratic process that the people of Plateau North entrusted us with their mandate to represent them. This election was free, fair, and credible. In this regard, the Court of Appeal did not find any wrongdoing.
“For me and the supporters of our party, the judgement of the court ordering a rerun election in which all political parties should participate is just a way for the people to reaffirm the mandate they freely gave us, and I am confident they will do it, again and again,” he added.
