Security operatives have arrested a wanted kidnap suspect, identified as Yahaya Zango, at the Hajj camp in Abuja, Daily Trust reports.
The suspect, said to be a resident of Paikon-Kore in Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), was reportedly apprehended on Sunday during a routine screening of Muslim pilgrims preparing for airlift to Saudi Arabia for the 2024 Hajj exercise.
A security source at the camp, who confirmed the arrest, said Zango had been declared wanted by security agencies over his alleged involvement in multiple kidnapping cases in the FCT.

“It was during the screening exercise this afternoon at the Hajj camp near the airport that operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) apprehended the suspect and whisked him away,” the source revealed.
According to the report, Zango attempted to travel as part of the Abuja Muslim contingent and had submitted his passport during the screening when he was identified and arrested.
A senior official of the Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, who requested anonymity, also confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspect had been on the run for some time following a manhunt launched by security agencies.
As of the time of filing this report, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, has yet to confirm the development. Calls and text messages sent to her phone were unanswered.
