On Friday, a vote of confidence in Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the New Nigeria Peoples Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, was passed by the party’s chieftains from the South West zone, adding a new dimension to the crisis shaking the NNPP.
The party elders made the call at a required meeting of the South West zonal leadership in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
Infostride News readers may recall that before it had been announced that a party faction led by Dr. Boniface Aniebonam had expelled the ex-governor of Kano State from the party. On the other hand, party leaders in the six states of the South West region have resolved to back the former governor of Kano State.

Osun State Chairman Dr. Tosin Odeyemi, National Auditor Ladipo Johnson, and National Vice Chairman (South West) Prince Ademola Ayoade were among the party heavyweights in attendance.
Pastor Peter Olagookun is the Chairman of Chairmen for the South West Forum. Mrs. Veronica Dikko Kila is the chairperson for the state of Lagos. Dr. Oluyinka Gabriel Folahan is the caretaker chairman for the state of Ekiti. Prince Kunle Ibrahim is the caretaker chairman for the state of Ogun.
While they completely rejected Aniebonam’s leadership, South West leaders urged all expelled party members to return to the fold.
They demanded that Aniebonam and his companions turn around and go back the way they came.
The party’s leaders appealed to all Nigerians, but particularly those in the South-West geopolitical zone, to back the NNPP in the name of better leadership and administration.
They promised in the communique that Ayoade read to do all it takes to improve the party’s future prospects.
They said, “After assessing and appraising the various activities of our party during the last general elections, we agree to do everything necessary to reposition the party for better performance in the future and we hereby agree and support the various activities of the National Working Committee (NWC) and the National Executive Committee (NEC).
The committee as a whole also rejected the antics of a group of ex-NNPP members led by Dr. Boniface Aniebonam and voted to have faith in the National Working Committee (NWC), the National Executive Committee (NEC), and Senator Musa Rabiu Kwankwaso as party leader. Together with the people, we shall introduce the NNPP as a viable political alternative for running the country.
According to Infostride News, Alhaji Adebisi Olopoeyan met privately with the party’s South West secretary, Kilamuwaye Badmus, the public relations officer for the state, and the chairman of the party in Oyo State, Mr. Adeosun Sunday, at his home in Ibadan.
