Alexis Sanchez believes Arsenal must win at Manchester United as they try to close on Premier League leaders Leicester City.
Leicester moved five points clear at the top of the table with a last-gasp 1-0 win over Norwich City on Saturday, and Arsenal must respond when they travel to Old Trafford on Sunday.
For Arsenal, a win is crucial for maintaining their chances in the title race with another key match against Tottenham Hotspur next weekend.
“We are obliged to win this match to put ourselves into a position where we can fight hard for the title,” the Chile forward said. “Manchester United are a very strong team with a great history of football.
“They have all this history behind them and it’s going to be a hard match. Now the focus is on the Premier League and trying to win — that’s important for me, the team, for everyone.”
Arsenal beat Louis van Gaal’s team 3-0 at home this season after flying out of the blocks to decide the game within the opening 20 minutes. Sanchez scored two goals that day at the Emirates, and wants to see a similar hunger from his team on Sunday.
“That really was the best match we’ve played all season. We went out there and put pressure on them having gone out with the mentality to win,” Sanchez said.
“That day, before we all went out for the match, if you looked into the eyes of all the players you could see we all had this hunger to win.
“There was just a look on our faces that we wanted it and, when you have that, you know you’re going to be hard to beat and that’s what happened — we went out with that mentality.”
