FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has promised that the territory’s administration will prioritize the growth of satellite communities.
Wike made this announcement on Tuesday in Abuja during the installation of the FCT Administration’s Mandate Secretaries.
He emphasized the need of ensuring that all parts of the FCT enjoy progress and development, saying that the prosperity and well-being of the population are not limited to the city center.

Mr. Lawan Geidam, Secretary, Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat; Mr. Danlami Ihayyo, Secretary, Education Secretariat; and Mr. Bitrus Garki, Secretary, Area Council Services Secretariat, have all been sworn in as Mandate Secretaries.
Mr. Chinedum Elechi, Secretary of Economic Planning, Revenue Generation, and Public Private Partnership; Mr. Salman Dako, Secretary of Legal Services Secretariat; and Mr. Adedolapo Fasawe, Secretary of Health and Environment Services Secretariat.
Mr. Uboku Nyah was also sworn in as the Transportation Secretariat’s new secretary.
Wike urged them to fix the procurement procedure and other problems that have been plaguing the FCT Administration’s ability to provide its services.
He argued that the principles of openness, effectiveness, and responsibility should be institutionalized across the government.
Your position as appointed secretaries is crucial in this process of change. You guys aren’t only our advisors; you’re also our leaders and policy enforcers.
You must take responsibility for turning our goals into real, lasting changes for the FCT.
Our president has charged us with the herculean task of transforming the FCT into a first-rate metropolis.
To do so, we need to focus on a few core issues that are crucial to the development of our city and the prosperity of its citizens.
He highlighted that one aspect of the purpose is to increase IGR by finding new and creative ways to bring in money to fund the development agenda.
He claims this is essential for funding large-scale endeavors.
As the minister pointed out, there is a systemic problem with public transit that needs fixing.
His argument was that a contemporary city needs a robust public transportation system in order to run efficiently.
