The Wellbeing Foundation Africa led by H.E. Mrs. Toyin Saraki, participated in a number of activities in Lagos, Nigeria on Saturday, 12th of December 2015, to empower adolescent girls and those marginalized by society.

In partnership with Netball Nigeria, the Wellbeing Foundation Africa participated in the Introductory Netball Umpiring Course organized by Bringing Netball Back (BNB), giving young girls the opportunity to learn, stay active and pursue their potential, through sports. Dedicated to ensuring that girls have equal access to social opportunities, which are typically male-dominated, such as athletics, the Wellbeing Foundation Africa and its Founder President – who is the Founding Patron of Netball Nigeria (Nigeria Netball Federation) – have supported Netball Nigeria since its inception, and encourages the participation of girls and young women in sports.

Taking place at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Centre, Lagos, the Netball Umpiring Course was followed by a Charity Netball Tournament themed “Giving is a Team Effort,” in support of the Family Vocational Institute for the Disabled (FVID). Facilitated by Hellen Manufor – Secretary, Nigerian Netball Federation and Ex-England Netball Player; and Rosemary Okocha – Ex-England Netball Player and A-Award Umpire, the Charity Tournament gave adolescent girls and young women the opportunity to engage in healthy competition while supporting others in need.

Also on the 12th of December, the Wellbeing Foundation Africa team participated in the launch of the Boot Out Meningitis for Good (BOOM4GOOD) Foundation, which consisted of a 5km charity walk from the Lagos Motor Boat Club, a breakfast talk and a meningitis information session after the walk. With teenagers – including adolescent girls being highly susceptible to meningitis, the Wellbeing Foundation Africa was pleased to support the BoOM4GOOD Foundation’s efforts to create awareness, educate children, parents and educational institutions in Nigeria about meningitis in order to bring about a reduction in meningitis related deaths in the country.
