While Dish Network internet plans are kept in high regard by most experts, many people have been asking whether it’s worth paying extra for satellite internet.
No doubt, satellite internet has its disadvantages in providing less freedom than, say, cable/fiber internet services. However, with the affordable pricing offers and high speed plans available from dishNET, the benefits you can get may be far greater than what you’d get from a low-cost, low speed dial-up or DSL connection.
An Overview of the Three Pricing Plans
Dish Network offers three generally affordable internet plans. Depending on the monthly fee requested for each of them, you get more or less speed and data for your transfers and downloads, giving you additional freedom to use the internet as you please.
Here is a short overview of the pricing plans:
- The first and most affordable one costs about $50 ($40 if purchased together with the Dish TV satellite service in a bundle). Your data is limited to 10Gb and your connection can only reach transfer speeds of about 5Mbps.
- The second plan – also called Dish Network’s Best Value plan – costs only $10 more, but provides you with double the speed and amount of data (10Mbps and 20Gb).
- Finally, for an extra $10, you can get to the 3rd plan. This consists of the same internet speed as the “best value” plan, but with an additional 10Gb/month which means you can download more files and stream a larger number of online music and videos.
Each of the Dish Network internet plans described above will require a 24-month commitment – similar to what you’d get from your mobile phone company.
Also, half of the data amount provided is off-peak bonus data which means you can only use it between 2 AM and 8 AM. For instance, if you have the 10Gb plan, and you’ve already used up 5Gb, you will only be able to use the remaining amount at night.
What Can You Do with the 10Gb, “Best Value” Plan?
The second of the Dish Network internet pricing plans is considered to offer the best value/price ratio of all of them. But why is that and what can you really hope to gain from it?
- First of all, you receive about 10 Mbps in terms of speed. Even if this only happens rarely, the average speed of up to 7-8 Mbps offered by Dish Network technology can allow you to quickly browse through your email accounts, upload and download pictures, visit advanced, graphically enhanced websites and much more.
- You still have to watch your data transfer amounts; however, 20Gb per month is still much better than what most of the alternative services have to offer. Basically that means about 600Mb per day on average which, when you remember that a picture or an HTML file is less than 0.5 Mb, still means a lot.
- Finally, both the speed and the amount of data available will allow you to browse through and stream small, SD quality videos. While you might not be able to download or stream large movies or other files without using up all your available data too quickly, you can still watch short 1-5 minute videos every now and then.
An Overall Superior Satellite Internet Service
While the Dish Network internet plans might not offer the same advantages that you’d get from one of the best internet providers in a nearby city, when you’re out in the middle of nowhere, satellite internet is basically the only option.
The advanced features, high transfer speed, affordable monthly fees and fair amount of data made available by Dish Network have placed the company among the top most advanced and reliable satellite internet providers currently offering these types of services.
