Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has accused Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed of treachery and undermining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by conspiring to retain the chairmanship of the PDP Governors’ Forum in the North.
Wike made these allegations during a media parley at his office in Abuja on Wednesday, where he criticized Mohammed’s leadership approach and motives within the party.
According to Wike, the PDP had a tradition of alternating the Governors’ Forum chairmanship between the North and South after each tenure.

However, he claimed that Mohammed and others broke this tradition, conspiring to retain the position in the North.
“When Tambuwal finished as chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, we had always alternated between North and South,” Wike said.
“But Bala and others conspired, went to Bauchi, and retained the chairmanship of the PDP Governors’ Forum in the North.”
Wike attributed this move to what he described as Mohammed’s “infantile ambition,” criticizing him for lacking the leadership qualities necessary to unite the party.
The minister also criticized Mohammed’s handling of party affairs, accusing him of failing to mobilize PDP governors to fund the party or make it efficient through the National Working Committee (NWC).
“As the chairman of the Governors’ Forum, how has he organized his colleagues in funding the party?” Wike asked.
“How has he ensured the NWC is ready to take over power from the ruling party in Ondo State?”
Wike further alleged that Mohammed played a key role in retaining Umar Damagum as the acting PDP National Chairman, only to later call for his removal when Damagum refused to comply with his demands.
“It was Bala who said Damagun should complete Ayu’s tenure,” Wike stated. “But when Damagun didn’t follow his demands, he started saying Damagun must go.”
The remarks underscore growing tensions within the PDP as it seeks to reposition itself as a viable opposition ahead of future elections.
