Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has shared how she once got herself involved in a public spat with a bus conductor who physically assaulted a girl in her presence.
She made made this revelation on twitter after watching a video of brave women marching out to protest against the frequent harassment they are subjected to at the popular Yaba Market.
She said “I’ve seen school girls groped touched in their uniforms on the street by conductors, area boys, hawkers, I once got into a public fight, chased a bus, confronted the conductor who reached out and smacked a girl at Maryland. This awareness needs to yield results now.”
“In a country like Nigeria, women should be taught self defense from primary school, it should be part of the curriculum till university.
Women should be encouraged to carry pepper sprays; in the US, it’s normal in schools for girls to buy and carry one! Perfect women.”
On the 15th of December, Women stormed Yaba market to protest against sexual harassment.
The women, under the banner of Market March, a group set up to tackle sexual harassment of women in markets, lifted placards with various inscriptions written on them like ‘not your color’, ‘you sef no sabi greet your aunty’ and ‘no be by force to buy’.
