As the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ Final Draw on 6 December decided the destiny of the 32 teams, football fans around the world flocked to FIFA’s digital platforms.
In the run-up to the big event in Costa do Sauípe, 3.6 billion pages of FIFA.com were consumed by fans globally. As the composition of the eight groups was announced, 425,000 users were simultaneously online.
It wasn’t just FIFA.com though that witnessed such traffic. FIFA’s app, launched on 1 December, saw 1.3million downloads in its first seven days, with 10 million pages of content consumed. It was also the #1 sports app in 111 countries.
On Facebook, FIFA’s official page for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil saw a growth of 40% with a reach of over 32 million, as fans were able to follow the build-up with exclusive behind-the-scenes photos, interviews & post-draw video interviews too.
On Twitter, the FIFA President @seppblatter passed 500,000 followers, the Brazilian President @DilmaBR promoted the Final Draw, and Vicente Del Bosque’s photobomb of Fabio Capello @fifacom went viral, as FIFA used Twitter Mirror for the first time.
FIFA.com, the official app and FIFA’s social media platforms will continue to evolve over the coming months as FIFA aims to create and share content which is informative, social, fun and accessible for hundreds of millions of football fans for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
