Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has given the green light for the disbursement of N708,158,208.77 to settle retirement benefits for 461 retirees across the state.
The governor’s spokesman, Mamman Mohammed, confirmed this in a statement released on Saturday.
The approval comes after the successful screening of the third batch of pensioners from the state’s 17 local government councils.

The statement noted that the funds would be directly disbursed to the retirees, while the next of kin of deceased pensioners would receive the payments on their behalf.
It emphasized that the payment is aimed at supporting the livelihoods of the retirees as they transition into retirement.
This recent approval follows a previous one reported by the media in November last year.
That approval included an increase in the monthly standing payment of gratuities from N100 million to N200 million, with the intention of accommodating more beneficiaries on a monthly basis.
