The Yoruba World Congress Worldwide (YWC) has petitioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the delayed burial of the late Pa Michael Taiwo Akinkunmi, the designer of the Nigerian flag.
In an open letter addressed to Tinubu, the group urged the president to intervene to ensure the deceased is buried without further delay.
The open letter, signed by YWC Vice President, Engineer Adekunle Ogundana, expressed concern over the delay in burying Akinkunmi, who passed away on August 21, 2023, and has since been kept in a morgue in Ibadan.

The group highlighted that despite promises made by the Federal and Oyo state governments, the deceased has not been buried. They disclosed that the family of the deceased has been paying N2,000.00 daily as a mortuary bill without any support from the government.
YWC appealed to Tinubu to urgently look into the matter and ensure that the family can bury their dead and find closure.
They emphasized the importance of honoring Akinkunmi, whose design was selected as the best for the Nigerian national flag in 1958.
The group also noted that the Senate had called on the Federal Government to immortalize Akinkunmi with a national honor.
They urged Tinubu to intervene and ensure that the late icon receives a befitting burial.
