In a significant political move, members of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in Akwa Ibom State have defected to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
The defectors, including chapter chairmen and state officers of YPP, hail from all 31 local government areas of Akwa Ibom.
During a ceremony at the Ibom Hall ground in Uyo, the state capital, the former National/State YPP Youths Caucus, represented by Prince Kini Ikpeme, handed over the entire leadership and structure of the party to the state PDP Chairman, Elder Aniekan Akpan.
Ikpeme stated that the decision to join PDP was to support Governor Umo Eno in implementing the administration’s policies and programs under his ‘ARISE Agenda.’
He expressed their commitment to abide by the rules and regulations of PDP, pledging loyalty to the party.
In response, Elder Aniekan Akpan, the State Chairman of PDP, commended the defectors for returning to their political home, emphasizing their recognition of the need for Akwa Ibom State to continue on the path of progress and development.
Hon. Frank Archibong, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, praised the defectors for identifying with progress by returning to PDP.
He emphasized Governor Umo Eno’s commitment to working with everyone to deliver good governance.
Hon. Ini Akpan, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Matters, welcomed the defectors and assured them of inclusion and synergy in Governor Eno’s youth-friendly ARISE Agenda.
