Egyptian side Zamalek will take a slender 1-0 lead into the return match against Kabuscorp from Angola after the White Knights won the Orange CAF Champions League first round first leg encounter at Cairo International stadium on Saturday night.
Defender Mahmoud Fathalla opened the scoring with a well taken goal in the 56th minute.
In a game of few clear cut chances it was just deserving for the home side who dominated possession and looked more purposeful going forward.
The first half was a dull affair and although Zamalek literally camped in Kabuscorp’s half, they failed to breach the visitors’ defence.
Kabuscorp who featured former TP Mazembe midfielder Tresor Mputu in their side seemed sluggish especially in the first half perhaps feeling the effects for arriving a day before the match.
Just before Fathalla’s goal, Kabuscorp had upped their game and a couple of shots tested the Zamalek goalkeeper but the would be no further goals and the teams meet for second leg on Friday 7 March at 11 November Stadium in Luanda , Angola.
