Alhaji Mannir Haidara, the Commissioner of Information and Culture for the state of Zamfara, has issued a warning against attempts by some politicians to smear the reputation of Governor Dauda Lawal and the administration he heads.
In a statement that was released in Gusau on Monday, Haidara decried recent statements that were made against the administration. The statement further said that the statements were made by several seasoned media professionals in the state.
“The state government discovered with dismay that some media veterans have been employed by politicians to blackmail the state government to achieve their bad and selfish goals. This has caused the state government great concern.

“It’s quite regrettable that seasoned journalists who have gained executive positions in the media industry would choose to engage in the practice of generating trouble for others.
‘This is very unfortunate with a valueless statement made by some veterans in the media industry, lingering on issues centered around the present administration in the state and the personality of Gov. Dauda Lawal,’ said Haidara. ‘This is very sad with a valueless statement produced by some veterans in the media industry.
“I had no intention of commenting on the baseless allegations that have been made against our government. However, it has become necessary for me to provide the general public with the facts.”
All of the charges made by people who enjoy causing trouble, according to the Commissioner, that Governor Lawal did little to address the issue of insecurity in the state are untrue.
“We are all aware that when Lawal took over as the governor of the state, the security challenges were already at an all-time high, and every socio-economic progress had come to a halt.
“Kidnapping, cattle rustling, and other horrific crimes grew widespread across the state’s nooks and crannies.
“When we took over, there were no drastic measures in place to tackle insecurity, and many communities across the state had been destroyed while residents became refugees in their own lands,” he explained. “When we took over.”
“Even though Lawal has only been in office for a short period of time (just three months), he has already begun a number of different policies and programs to secure the state’s continued peace and stability.
He paid out all of the unpaid three-month salary and pensions that he inherited from the administration that had been in office before him in the state.
“Now, citizens of the state are seeing and feeling the impacts of security, both economically and socially, as a result of wise policies and programs implemented by a government that is oriented toward the people.”
The Information Commissioner issued a stern warning to seasoned journalists working in the state, urging them to refrain from making such meaningless assertions. (NAN)
