The Federal High Court sitting in Gusau, Zamfara State, has nullified the All Progressives Congress, APC, senatorial primary election conducted for the Zamfara North Senatorial District.
The court, presided over by Justice Hassan Dikko, ordered the APC to conduct a fresh primary election for the senatorial district within 14 days.
The ruling followed a suit filed by APC senatorial aspirant, Dr Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, who challenged the validity of the primary that produced Senator Sahabi Ya’u as the party’s candidate.
Shinkafi had alleged irregularities in the conduct of the primary and accused the APC of failing to comply with its constitution and relevant electoral guidelines.
Delivering judgment, Justice Dikko ruled in favour of the plaintiff, holding that the APC did not follow its constitution and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, guidelines in conducting the primary.
The court consequently ordered the party to conduct a fresh primary within 14 days.
Reacting to the judgment, Shinkafi expressed satisfaction with the decision, saying it had restored confidence in the judiciary.
The ruling is expected to reopen the contest for the APC’s Zamfara North senatorial ticket as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.
