The Zamfara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has threatened to sue the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, over alleged defamation and character assassination of Governor Dauda Lawal.
In a statement issued by the party’s spokesperson, Halliru Andi, on Friday, the PDP accused Matawalle of making baseless and damaging remarks against the governor.
The statement revealed that the State Working Committee (SWC), led by Dr. Jamil Jibo Magayaki, was considering legal action against the former Zamfara governor to check what it described as his “unguarded utterances.”

“We have been monitoring the body language and unguarded utterances of Bello Matawalle and are considering court action against him,” the statement read.
The party added that Matawalle, as a junior minister without constitutional immunity, should be reminded of his limits in public commentary.
“We have resolved to initiate legal action against him just to remind him of his limits as a Junior Minister without immunity and to serve as deterrent to other egoistic politicians in the state,” the statement said.
The Zamfara PDP further declared that it would no longer tolerate what it termed the “politics of bitterness” allegedly being championed by Matawalle’s faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
The development comes amid growing political tension between the ruling PDP in Zamfara and the opposition APC led by Matawalle.
