Since its initial outbreak in December 2022, Zamfara State has had 1188 cases of cholera and 50 cases of diphtheria across its 14 local government areas.
On Wednesday, Dr. Aishatu Anka, the state’s commissioner for health, made the announcement while delivering supplies to the Shagari Cholera Treatment Centre in Gusau.
Anka reported widespread Cholera in the state’s Gusau Anka, Bakura, and Bukkuyum regions.

The commissioner said, “I am here at Shagari Cholera Treatment Centre to equally assess the patient’s response to treatment.” Governor Dauda Lawan reportedly visited some patients at Anka General Hospital.
According to her, there have been 1188 cases reported, including 40 deaths.
She also confirmed that fifty cases of diphtheria had been reported, resulting in two deaths.
According to the commissioner, a probe is being initiated to determine the disease’s scope of transmission.
Anka praised the Nigeria CDC for opening a state center at Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital Gusau and asked locals to practice good sanitation and cleanliness.
The only way to stop the disease from spreading further, she said, was for them to drink only clean water.
