Zimbabwe will engage neighbors Mozambique in a friendly match both sides intend to use to fine tune for next month’s African Nations Championship finals in SA. The match is scheduled for Sunday December 8 at Barbour fields Stadium in Zimbabwe’s second largest city of Bulawayo.
Zimbabwe coach Ian Gorowa recently announced a 24 man squad in preparedness for CHAN but has said he will cast his eye further before settling on a final squad, “The purpose of such matches like the one against Mozambique is for us to have a closer look again at some of the players who could make the grade in the national team and these are players who have been on the fringes and whom we could not use during the CHAN qualifiers or the last World Cup qualifier,” Gorowa said.
Zimbabwe is in Group B, along with the Atlas Lions of Morocco, the Uganda Cranes and the Stallions of Burkina Faso. The CHAN tournament will run from January 11 to February 1 with the Zimbabwe getting their campaign underway against Morocco at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town on January 12.
