No fewer than ten political parties in Cross River State have formed a coalition aimed at unseating the incumbent governor, Senator Bassey Otu, in the 2027 general elections.
The coalition was established on Thursday following a crucial meeting held in Calabar, the state capital.
At the meeting, the leadership of the ten political parties unanimously agreed to work together against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing dissatisfaction with the current administration’s performance.

In a statement signed by Rev. Omaleko Efut Omaleko, Director of Communication and Strategy for the coalition and Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Cross River State, the group criticized the APC for what it described as poor governance, lack of accountability, and inadequate transparency in the management of state affairs.
The coalition warned the ruling party against stifling democracy and attempting to turn Cross River into a one-party state.
Political parties represented at the meeting included the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Allied People’s Movement (APM), Boot Party (BP), Labour Party (LP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Young Progressives Party (YPP).
The Action Democratic Congress (ADC) and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) also sent representatives.
The coalition vowed to intensify efforts to mobilize support across the state and present a united front ahead of the 2027 elections.
