As part of the activities to herald the commencement of the 19th National Sports Festival (NSF), the National Sports Commission (NSC) on Monday February 10, 2014 in Abuja inaugurated four sub-committees, eight project management teams and the Main Organising Committee (MOC) secretariat towards delivering a seamless festival.
The festival tagged: “Paradise Games 2014” is scheduled to hold from November 23 to December 7, 2014 in Calabar, Cross River State.
While inaugurating the sub-committees and project management teams, the Director General of NSC, who is also the Chairman of the MOC, Gbenga Elegbeleye enjoined members to be proactive and employ their wealth of experience, knowledge, skills and talents in sports organization to ensure that the festival which is Nigeria’s equivalent of the Olympics, meets international standards.
Gbenga Elegbeleye tasked the newly inaugurated members to strive towards exceeding the standard set at the “EKO Games” as the goal of the commission is to sustain the tempo of the past games as well as improve upon it. He noted that the “Paradise Games” is an open festival for all eligible athletes.
The Sub-Committees inaugurated comprise the following: the Sub-Committee on Finance to be headed by a Deputy Director in the Commission; the Sub-Committee on Technical to be headed by Bolaji Ojo-Oba; the Medical Sub-Committee to be headed by Abdulkadir Mu’Azu and the Sub-Committee on Media and Publicity to be chaired by Paul Bassey.
The project management teams are made up of the following: Games Village Management with Okebugwu as Chairman, Transport headed by Peter Nelson as Project Manager; Venues and Facilities headed by Ahmadu Gambo as Project Manager; Ceremonial and Protocol by Anne Attah (Project Manager); Accommodation by Issa Suleiman as Project Manager; Torch of Unity by Oluwole Akoja as Project Manager; Zonal Elimination headed by Ademola Are as Project Manager and Marketing and Sponsorship with Maria Wophil as Project Manager and then the MOC Secretariat.
