The police on Friday arraigned two fake prophets, Williams Ehuchie, 31, and Abubakar Mikairu, 28, in a Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court for cheating unsuspecting victims.

Ehucie and Mikairu are charged with belonging to a gang of armed robbers.

The prosecutor, Insp. Jeremiah Elijah, told the court that the accused persons were arrested during a raid by a team of police officers from Lugbe, Abuja, led by Spt. Raphael Uwadia in a black spot in Galadimawa village, Abuja.

Elijah told the court that they were arrested on Jan. 17 where they were chanting and perpetrating their evil act.

He said the accused persons were found with machetes, different kinds of soaps, perfumes, candles which they used to deceive people.

The prosecutor said that during police investigation they were unable to give a satisfactory account of themselves.

Elijah said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 306 and 322 of the Penal Code.

If convicted, they are liable to a total of 17 years in prison or with an option to pay a fine or with both.

The accused persons denied the allegation and pleaded not guilty.

Senior Magistrate Aliyu Shafa admitted them to bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with one surety each, in like sum who must live within the court jurisdiction.

He adjourned the case to Feb. 5 for commencement of hearing.
