A former Governor of Lagos State and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has dismissed allegations that he was planning on imposing a former Accountant-General of Lagos, Mr. Akinwumi Ambode, as the next governor of the state.
Tinubu described the allegations as not unusual especially as elections are around the corner.
His Media Adviser, Mr. Sunday Dare, said this in an interview with a PUNCH correspondent on Monday.
He was reacting to allegations by the coordinator of a Lagos-based group, Visioners for New Lagos, Mr. Bambo Akin-Johnson, who had alleged that there was a plot by the former governor to impose Ambode as governor.
Akin-Johnson had vowed that the group was determined to stop Tinubu’s culture of imposition of governorship candidates on the state.
In response, Dare said “It’s the season of politics and an election year, such allegations and insinuations will be commonplace. This particular one is unfounded. Let them provide proof. He who alleges must prove.
“What I recall he has said repeatedly is that development is not about religion. And that governing Lagos State is about merit, competence and ability of the candidate.
“Just like he governed Lagos and laid a foundation upon which Governor Babatunde Fashola, another competent governor built upon, the next governor of Lagos must also be competent and qualified.
“The people of Lagos and the voters will decide who they want as governor when they go out to vote. Not a group like this one will decide for them”.
