The Kwara State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has clarified that it has not zoned its governorship ticket to any of the three senatorial districts in the state.
The governorship candidate of the party, according to the state PDP chairman, Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo, could emerge from any senatorial district.
His words: “I want to assure that there is no zoning in PDP Kwara State. It is not a situation of our governor either coming from the South, Central or from the North. Our governorship candidate can come from any senatorial district of the state”.
The PDP chairman, who allayed the fears of all contestants, also dismissed speculations of an anointed candidate in the party saying, “If we would anoint a candidate, we could not have allowed anybody to buy the form except the anointed. If our ticket is meant for a senatorial district, we would not have collected money from about 12 aspirants, knowing fully well that they are not all from the same senatorial district. Our candidate can come from any part of Kwara State”.
Oyedepo, who said members of the party would resolve all their differences amicably in the choice of candidate through fair and transparent primaries, warned the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state not see the ongoing internal squabbles in the party as opportunity to profit or assume the party is in crisis.
He also debunked insinuation that the delegate list had been tampered with, saying, “What we sent to the national headquarters of our party was also returned to us just as accredited here. And today, I am privileged to even show the authenticated list to all the local government chairmen of our party and we all see that there is no alteration in the list”.
