Suarez Success Not Shocking – Luis Enrique

messi ronaldo suarezBarcelona manager Luis Enrique said it’s no surprise that Luis Suarez has found even more success in his second season with the Catalan club.

Since moving from Liverpool ahead of the 2014-15 season, the Uruguayan has established himself alongside strike partners Lionel Messi and Neymar to form what is arguably the best attacking trio in world football.

Suarez, 28, scored twice in Barcelona’s 4-0 win against Real Betis on Wednesday to bring his goal tally to a Primera Division leading 15 and his manager said it’s what they’ve come to expect from the striker.

“I am not surprised by the number of goals Suarez is scoring,” Luis Enrique said at a news conference. “He has been a goalscorer all his life and will continue to score goals.”

Barcelona head into their first fixture of 2016 with their coach demanding they improve on their huge recent success over the course of the coming 12 months.

They visit city rivals Espanyol knowing victory can potentially leave them three points clear in first place by the weekend’s conclusion and maintain their status as favourites to retain the Spanish title.

After a year in which the potent combination of Messi, Suarez and Neymar inspired them to five trophies and to a new Spanish record of 180 goals scored in a calendar year, Luis Enrique wants even more.

“I don’t dwell on memories and 2015 is in the past,” he said. “Now I’m interested in 2016 and being the best again. That’s what professionals do.

“Everyone can get better. The players, the coaches, and all the people that form part of this club. There is very little difference between Europe’s big clubs and we have to keep working hard.
