Ahead of the 2023 general elections, youths in Akwa Ibom State have been advised to look inwards and choose competent people at all levels of public office and not those who do not have their interests at heart.
One of the frontline governorship aspirants in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ide Owodiong Idemeko who gave the advice at the weekend during a consultation visit on the Chapter Officers of PDP in Ibesikpo Asutan local government area of the state said good leadership is the only guarantee for the promotion of development and progress in the state
He also called for attitudinal change towards politics and electioneering campaigns even as he urged the youths to remain vigilant and ensure that their votes genuinely count to preserve democracy.
He said, “The people of Akwa Ibom must shine their eyes now, we must get it right to enhance our development and progress, we must strive to protect our democracy by ensuring that our votes count and we must choose competent people at all levels of public office against those with immediate pecuniary benefits.
Also speaking, the chapter chairman of PDP in the Ibesikpo Asutan council area, Pastor Uwem Etim commended the aspirant and wished him success in both the primaries and the general election.
Meanwhile, several speakers at the event, mostly beneficiaries of Obong Idemeko’s benevolence, took turns explaining how he helped them and prayed to God to help him too.
