    2023 General Election: PDP Zones Guber Ticket To Abia North, Central Senatorial Districts

    The Abia State chapter of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has announced its position on the zoning of the gubernatorial ticket ahead of the party’s primaries and main general elections in 2023.

    In a communique dated and signed by the Abia chairman of the party, Rt. Hon Allwell Asiforo Okere, and issued to newsmen in Umuahia, on Saturday, the State PDP leadership, zoned the governorship seat to Abia North and Abia central Senatorial districts.

    It revealed that it arrived at the decision after wide consultation with leaders, critical stakeholders, teeming members and supporters and the recently concluded tour by the PDP leadership across the seventeen local government areas in Abia state.

    The Abia PDP urged her governorship aspirants from the above mentioned zones liaise with the party for presentation to the State Elders Committee between today 26th March, 2022 and latest 30th March.

    Recall that there have been exchange of brickbats by political stakeholders and groups in Abia State over zoning agreement, known as “Abia Charter Equity” propagated by the founding fathers of the state which guaranteed rotation of the Abia governorship seat among the three Senatorial district of the state, namely Abia North, Abia South and Abia central.

    The communique by the Abia PDP partly read: “That the Party is appreciative of the Governor,His Excellency, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu,Ph.D for the confidence he has shown in the Party and urge him to continue to show exemplary leadership and to ensure the PDP flag bearer for the 2023 election emerges through a process guided by Party decisions.

    “The Party in another development wishes to inform our Party faithfuls that the new membership cards are available at the various Local Governments and are free courtesy of the Governor.

    “Also, be informed that the old membership cards are no longer in use as they have expired, consequently, all Aspirants and those nominating them are hereby advised to obtain the new cards for use as they fill out their nomination forms.

    “Finally,all Aspirants from Abia State who collected their nomination forms from Abuja should return the forms through the State at 45 Finbarrs Road for proper documentation for use during screening”.
