The vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Rotimi Amaechi, has told leaders of the party that they could retire from active politics if the All Progressives Congress, APC, wins the 2027 presidential election.
Amaechi made the statement on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, while addressing participants at the ADC National Women League Conference in Abuja.

The former Rivers State governor urged party members to return to their respective states and wards to mobilise support for the ADC ahead of the 2027 general election.
He recalled the APC’s 2015 campaign against the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and urged ADC members to adopt a similar grassroots mobilisation strategy.
Amaechi said the party’s leaders would face political retirement if the APC retains power in 2027, stressing the need for members to work at the grassroots to secure votes for the ADC.
He also challenged members to mobilise at least 2,000 votes from each ward, arguing that such grassroots support would strengthen the party’s chances at the polls.
The ADC vice-presidential candidate further disclosed that he would campaign across several states, including Kebbi, Adamawa, Rivers and Delta, as part of efforts to support the party’s candidates.
He said the outcome of governorship elections was also important because, according to him, a president requires governors who share the same political platform to effectively implement policies.
Amaechi also criticised the current economic situation in the country, claiming that Nigerians were facing increased hardship, particularly in accessing food, education and healthcare.
He further claimed that the number of out-of-school children had increased from between 10 million and 12 million when he left government to about 20 million.
The former minister urged ADC members, particularly women, to intensify grassroots engagement and encourage eligible voters to participate in the 2027 elections.
Amaechi’s comments form part of the ADC’s ongoing campaign activities and mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
