Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of engaging in what he described as anticipatory rigging ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Melaye, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), raised concerns over the credibility of the electoral process, warning against any attempt to manipulate the outcome of the forthcoming polls.

The former lawmaker issued the warning in a statement shared on social media, where he challenged the electoral commission to ensure that the 2027 elections were conducted in a free, fair and credible manner.
Melaye cautioned those allegedly planning to manipulate the elections, declaring that Nigerians would not remain silent if their votes were undermined.
He used the expression, “Rig and say your final prayer,” to underscore his opposition to any attempt to compromise the electoral process.
His remarks come amid growing concerns among opposition figures and political stakeholders over the integrity of the voters’ register and the preparedness of INEC ahead of the 2027 elections.
The controversy surrounding the preliminary voters’ register has attracted public attention following reports of suspicious photographs and other questionable entries. INEC has said it is examining the concerns and that the register remains subject to verification and correction before final certification.
Melaye’s allegation adds to calls by opposition figures for greater transparency in the commission’s preparations. However, his claim of anticipatory rigging remains an allegation and would require evidence to establish any wrongdoing by electoral officials.
The 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for January 16, while governorship and State House of Assembly elections are slated for February 6.
As preparations continue, INEC faces pressure to address concerns about the voters’ register and demonstrate that adequate safeguards are in place to protect the credibility of the electoral process.
